BBC Evening Session Interview on Radio 1
BBC Evening Session interview on Radio 1 with Steve Lamacq
Speedo: [strange noise]
[background strange noise]
Steve: How are you?
Speedo: I'm doin' dandy.
Steve: How long has it since you've been in the UK?
Speedo: Uh, I dunno, about two days, I think.
[background screaming]
Steve: Is someone being decapitated in the background?
Speedo: I don't know. It must be on your end, I think.
Steve: Is it? Ok. Are you pleased with the new album?
Speedo: Oh yeah, totally.
Steve: It's really energetic; didn't you do this all live?
Speedo: Yes we did. We recorded it in I think about ten days. We just did the whole thing live, we did a song a day, um but there's thirteen songs on the record, but we did it in ten days, so figure that one out.
Steve: Math's not a strong point ever, really.
Speedo: [dumb voice] Oh I hate math!
Steve: You get to do a duet on this album don't you?
Speedo: Yeah. That was kinda neat. Yeah, Holly Golightly, from, er, you know, this lovely city that were in right now. We played a show with the Headcoatees and became friends with Holly, and er, were recording out in Milton Keynes last time we were out, and er, we invited her out to sing on a song; she sang on I think about seven songs with us. Our favourite was called Eye on You, and we included it on the new record.
Steve: This nods to all sorts of different rock an roll eras.
Speedo: I think on this recorded, you know, we've often alluded towards different directions on paper, but those directions were never fully realised, and I think on this record its a bit more coherent and a bit more apparent in the music.
Steve: Are you hanging around, 'cause you're doing a couple of festivals.
Speedo: Yeah...
Steve: Was it Reading or Pheonix where the power went down?
Speedo: That was Reading.
Steve: Let's hope you're not jinxed with power this time.
Speedo: I hope it doesn't go out this time, cause that would be a bummer for everyone else, 'cause I think we're playing, like at eight o'clock in the morning, and their serving beans and onions and mushrooms during our set, or whatever people eat.
Steve: It's the breakfast set.
Speedo: Yes it is.
Steve: You're gonna play a live set for us, what are you going to do?
Speedo: It's called "When in Rome you Do the Jerk"
[live set follows]
